About the project

• The challenge:

  The current parking management system didn't allow the use of time-restricted parking, flexible parking rates, granting discounts, and parking based on license-plate scanning. The MECC venue also wished to improve the efficiency of peak-time traffic, including before and after events. Making parking spaces available to the staff of the nearby Maastricht University Hospital and Maastricht University was also one of the requirements of the new parking solution.

• The solution:

  WPS Parking Solutions has equipped the MECC Maastricht parking facility with the user-friendly, future-proof ParkID parking management system and matching ParkAdvance parking equipment. In addition to a wide range of features, the MECC and WPS worked together to meet a number of specific requirements. Several options have been implemented for the provision of discounts, including discount cards and ticket validation through the GUI or smart discount provider. In addition, a separate or collective parking rate (fixed or time-restricted) applies to each parking facility, payment terminal, event, time and date, so as to facilitate rate differentiation. During high-traffic events, such as the Jumping Indoor Maastricht equestrian event, a fixed rate applies where visitors purchase a parking pass from a payment terminal. Dedicated and flexible pooling and acceptance of the (MIFARE®) passes of the nearby Maastricht University Hospital and Maastricht University complete the system.

• The result:

  ParkID is a flexible and scalable software platform that will prepare MECC Maastricht for the future. The system is solid and can easily be extended to include new requirements and features, and WPS also meets the stringent CSR requirements. For example, WPS exclusively uses lead-free parts, while the ParkAdvance equipment is CSA/UL-certified and carries the KEMA quality mark. A variety of energy-efficient materials were used in its fabrication, including LED lighting, thermostat-controlled heating elements, PCs, and TFT monitors bearing the Energy Star label and various sustainable stainless steel components.
